European browser comparison

The European alternative to Microsoft Edge

If you're on Edge because Windows put it there, and you've been increasingly uneasy about Recall, Copilot, the Bing chat in your address bar, and the Microsoft account prompts: Dazr is the EU-built browser without any of that. Same Chromium engine, none of the corporate AI overhead, none of the US data flows.

Why people are leaving Edge

If any of these sound familiar, this page is for you.

Recall and AI features

Recall, Microsoft's AI feature that builds a searchable timeline of what you've seen on your PC, has been controversial since its 2024 announcement and gone through several rollback and opt-in revisions. Copilot in the sidebar, Bing chat in the address bar, and AI summaries are visible in recent Edge releases.

Bing-flavored everything

The address bar surfaces Bing suggestions. The sidebar surfaces Bing results. The new tab page surfaces Bing results. Bing is the default search engine on a fresh install. Removing all of it cleanly often requires group policy or registry edits.

"Sign in with your Microsoft account"

Edge regularly prompts you to sign in. Once signed in, your bookmarks, history, and passwords flow into your Microsoft account, which is connected to your Office 365, your Xbox, your LinkedIn, and your work tenant. The browser becomes a profile-stitching surface.

Persistent telemetry

Edge sends "diagnostic data" to Microsoft on a tier scale (Required / Optional). Even on Required, network captures show frequent traffic to Microsoft endpoints. On Windows it's tied into Windows telemetry, which is even harder to fully disable.

US jurisdiction

Microsoft is under US laws like the CLOUD Act and FISA Section 702 that can require user data, sometimes through secret court orders. For European businesses, the Schrems II ruling means transferring browsing-related personal data to a US company is on shaky legal ground. Dazr's data flows are EU-only by construction.

Sponsored content on the New Tab

Promoted news stories, sponsored quick links, "interest" cards, weather modules with embedded ads, Edge's New Tab is a content-marketing surface as much as a browser homepage. Dazr's New Tab is a search box and a clock.

What changes when you switch

No AI you didn't ask for

No Copilot in the sidebar. No "summarize this page" button. No Bing chat in the address bar. No "ask AI" right-click. No Recall. Dazr is a browser. If you want to use an AI website, you can, that's the open web. The browser itself sends nothing to AI providers.

  • Zero AI requests originating from Dazr
  • No always-on screen capture or timeline
  • No "AI personalization" of the New Tab

EU-only data flows

For European businesses worried about US data laws, the appeal is straightforward: Dazr's services run on European servers under European law. No Microsoft services are in the data path: nothing flows to Redmond, no AI prompts go to Microsoft's servers, no search lookups go to Bing. The only servers Dazr talks to on its own are dazr.eu (for updates) and our European DNS provider.

  • EU-only update server (dazr.eu)
  • EU non-profit DNS (dns0.eu)
  • No US cloud anywhere in the stack
  • compliant with European privacy law from day one

A clean New Tab and address bar

The address bar shows your history and bookmarks. Type a search, press Enter, get results. No "trending searches", no Bing-flavored suggestions, no sponsored quick links, no AI chat suggestions. The New Tab is a search box and a clock. That's it.

  • No promoted content on New Tab
  • No sponsored search suggestions
  • No "trending" or "for you" panels
  • No AI chat surface attached to typing

What Edge still does that Dazr doesn't (yet)

  • Mobile. Edge runs on iOS and Android. Dazr is desktop today; mobile is on the roadmap.
  • Centrally-managed enterprise deployment. If you're rolling out a browser to thousands of seats and need Active Directory policies, that's a feature we're working toward as enterprise demand grows. For individual users and small teams, it's not relevant.

Frequently asked questions

Will Dazr work with my company's existing tools?

Dazr is Chromium-based, so any web app that works in Chrome or Edge works in Dazr. SSO via Entra ID (Azure AD), Okta, Google Workspace, and Keycloak all work. SharePoint, Microsoft 365 web apps, Google Workspace, Salesforce, ServiceNow, all unaffected.

Does Dazr have Recall or Copilot?

No. Dazr does not screenshot your screen, does not maintain a searchable history of what you saw, does not have an AI assistant in the sidebar, and does not send anything to Microsoft, OpenAI, or any other AI provider. We removed all our own AI features in May 2026 because we don't think a privacy browser should ship them.

Will my Edge bookmarks and passwords come over?

Yes. Dazr offers automatic Edge bookmark import on first launch. For passwords, export them from Edge (Settings → Profiles → Passwords → ⋯ → Export) and import into Bitwarden, 1Password, or KeePassXC. Dazr doesn't store passwords itself.

Is Dazr suitable for EU enterprises?

It's getting there. Dazr is built in the EU under EU law, so the data-transfer concerns European businesses face with US-based services don't apply here. We don't yet have an central management tools or formal security audits, those are on the roadmap as enterprise demand picks up. If your organization has questions, contact us via the support form.

Why leave Edge, isn't it just Chromium with Microsoft polish?

Edge is Chromium underneath, but Microsoft layered a lot on top: Recall (the screenshot-everything-you-see feature), Copilot in the sidebar, Bing chat in the address bar, mandatory sign-in prompts for Microsoft accounts, telemetry that's notoriously hard to fully disable, sponsored quick links, and Bing-integrated search suggestions. The Chromium engine is shared; the rest is not.

Does Dazr send data to Microsoft?

No. There are no Microsoft services in Dazr, not for telemetry, not for safe-browsing, not for translation, not for sync. Update checks go to dazr.eu, DNS goes to dns0.eu (a French/German non-profit). That's the network footprint Dazr originates.

Edge without the Microsoft

Same Chromium engine your web apps already work with. None of the AI, telemetry, or Microsoft account prompts. Built in the EU.
